1. Equity
Equity refers to the total value of your trading account, including your balance and any unrealized profits or losses from open positions. It fluctuates in real time based on market movements.
Formula: Equity = Balance + Floating Profit/Loss.
Example: If your account balance is $5,000 and you have an open trade with a $200 profit, your equity will be $5,200.
Key Point: It shows the current value of your account if all positions were closed instantly.
2. Balance
Balance reflects the fixed value of your trading account after all closed trades and transactions. It does not account for open trades or floating profits/losses.
Example: If your account balance is $5,000 and you haven’t opened any trades, your equity and balance are the same. If you open a trade, the balance stays at $5,000 while equity changes based on the trade’s performance.
Key Point: It shows the historical value of your account before considering open trades.
In Summary
Equity is dynamic and includes the impact of open trades.
Balance is static and only reflects closed trades.
Understanding both is crucial for effective risk management and monitoring account performance.
